FAQ
How difficult is the gorilla trek?
The trek can range from moderate to strenuous, depending on the gorilla family's location on a given day. Hikes typically last 2 to 6 hours over uneven, steep, and muddy terrain. Basic fitness is recommended, but porters are available to assist.
Is there an age limit for gorilla trekking?
Yes, the minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years old.
What are the chances of seeing gorillas?
Nearly 100%! The Uganda Wildlife Authority monitors gorilla families daily, and rangers lead you directly to them.
Are the gorillas dangerous?
Mountain gorillas are gentle and non-aggressive as long as they don’t feel threatened. They are accustomed to human presence through habituation, meaning they are used to visitors. However, they are wild animals, and it’s crucial to follow the ranger’s instructions at all times. Gorilla attacks are extremely rare, and park rangers are trained to ensure visitor safety.
Are the flights included?
Yes! The trip includes a domestic flight from Entebbe to Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrip, the closest airports to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This flight significantly reduces travel time compared to the long drive from Kampala.
Why are we flying instead of driving?
Flying from Entebbe to Kihihi or Kisoro is included in the trip to save time and enhance comfort. If you drive, the journey from Entebbe to Bwindi takes 8-10 hours, with long stretches of rough, unpaved roads. By taking a 1-hour flight, you avoid the exhausting overland trip and maximize your time for relaxation and adventure. Flying also offers stunning aerial views of Uganda’s landscapes, including the lush forests, lakes, and rolling hills, making the journey part of the experience. Once you land, a short scenic drive will take you directly to your lodge near the trekking area.
